On May 13th, 2022, China National Railway Group Co., Ltd. issued a notice to rename Zhengzhou South Station as Zhengzhou Hangkonggang railway station.

The external design of Zhengzhou Hangkonggang railway station is inspired by the shape of a lotus, crane, and pot. The interior of the station is designed with six floors. The ground floor is the entrance and exit hall and parking lot. The second floor is the platform level. The third floor is the elevated station building. The first basement level is the entrance and exit hall and transfer hall. The second and third basement levels are the platform levels for the rail transit lines 9 and 13.
